Accountability

Today I started an agreement with a fellow solopreneur to keep myself accountable.

It’s not the first time I’ve done something like this and it likely won’t be the last.

I’m doing it because it was suggested to me, but also because I know how I am.

Without an external force to keep me from procrastinating, I will procrastinate.

Stop me when this sounds familiar:

When I have something I need to do that I don’t want to do, I find all sorts of other things to do.

For some people, I hear that’s chores. And I definitely do the laundry and the dishes when I’m trying to avoid something.

But for me the big thing is writing.

I write all the time, basically every day. But most of what I write does not grow my business.

I’m writing this right now instead of drafting an email to send to someone in my network.

So the goal of this accountability agreement is to have another person aware of this.

Now he knows what I’m trying to accomplish this week and I know what he’s trying to accomplish. And hopefully, this coming Monday, we’ll both have done most of what we said we would, if only to avoid the embarrassment of saying we didn’t.

Here’s hoping.
